The Story of Star Hitchers

We believe everyone has a story - here’s ours.

About Star Hitchers™

We will work with you to create well-researched stories of people and places. Not charts of census records or bare statistics about demographics, but stories. Well-documented and interesting human stories.

The stories will include your explanation of your interest in the person or place and the way you gathered your information. You will not only tell a story, you will help other people tell theirs.

We share the stories here and on our podcast. The stories are told by family historians, teachers, and students—people like you.

Star Hitchers™ features stories of people’s lives and the places where people live. These stories are told by family historians like you.

Hear From Our Founder

I grew up with an abiding respect for the people who bravely crossed the sea to make a home in a new land, the settlers who broke the hard sod, the foot soldiers who went to war, the preachers who rode horseback through the wilderness to save souls. I acquired a tremendous love for America and the millions of ordinary people with extraordinary stories to tell. I loved history classes and read biographies from the school library. I was mesmerized by Alex Haley’s “Roots” series on TV. I absorbed stories told by family members of earlier times.

I was fascinated by the places where I lived, the places I visited, the places my ancestors lived, the places discovered on maps. History is found in places. People are the product of the places in which they live. Every place has its own story.

We will work with you to create well-researched stories of people and places. Not charts of census records or bare statistics, but stories. Well-documented and interesting human stories. We will help you tell stories about people and places of interest to you, your connection to them, and how you learned about them.
